Rise in the Price of Smartphones
With the increase in the number of features in smartphones, the prices have creeped so high that buying a laptop would be a more easier pill to swallow than buying a flagship smartphone. That said I would like to quote MKBHD's frequently used phrase "Cheap smartphones are becoming great" which stands true to the fact that sub Rs.20,000 devices have become great like never before in the past. This has to do with the fact that consumers expect highest levels of quality, performance, features at the lowest possible price. India being one of the largest consumer base in the world, smartphone manufacturers fight it out to become the market leader in the country. Another leading tech reviewer Unbox Therapy in his recent video on Apple planning to assemble iPhone's in India has shared that the Indian consumers are among the most educated users of smartphones in the world and that it would take more than just reducing the prices of iPhones marginally to increase the sales of iPhones in India.
What does this all mean for an average consumer?
First, you get for what you pay, I.e cheap smartphones may be of good value but lack the quality and the true innovative features of an flagship smartphone.
Second, Prioritizing the main requirements can narrow down confusions while buying an smartphone and reduce the money spent on unnecessary features.
Third, Planning on how long the purchased device is going to be used to decide on the budget in which the purchase is to be made.
All this said people should remember that smartphone brands have to cut corners to provide smartphones with various features at lower prices and it solely depends on the manufacturer to decide upon it. Hence the decisions of consumers while buying an new phone should not just depend upon the price of the smartphone.
Again I would like to quote MKBHD's 5 pillars of a great smartphone:
